"Widow's Cloak" by Rosita Alvarez
2009 Original Oil on Canvas 36" by 48" $1200 copyright Rosita Alvarez 2009
I've secretly carried a self image of me wearing this protective cloak for twenty years. After visiting Japan in 2008 and seeing Kimono, the covering now morphs between cloak and kimono. This painting came as a surprise one day as I was sketching. Having my little one peeping out beneath added the magic to this as I feel I carry all my children in there with me. My community became the cloak when I was suddenly a single parent. They comforted, protected & helped heal me and the children. The woman in the painting smiles because of this and because she knows there is much to be revealed in the loss of precious life. Much to be revealed in its own timing.
